The Kano State Police Command, in collaboration with key stakeholders, has intensified efforts to curb hate speech and fake news as part of broader strategies to sustain peace and security in the state.
At a one-day sensitization workshop held in Khalifa Isyaka Rabiu University, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said the initiative aligns with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to develop proactive measures against emerging social threats.
The workshop, organised in partnership with the Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices and the Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation, focused on strengthening public awareness and institutional collaboration to address misinformation.
CP Bakori warned that the spread of hate speech and fake news undermines social cohesion and economic development, stressing that offenders would face legal consequences.
He called on media professionals, social media users and community leaders to support security agencies by promoting responsible communication.
Representatives of the state government, security agencies, academia and youth groups attended the engagement, underscoring a multi-stakeholder approach to preventing conflict and safeguarding public order in Kano State.
