The Labour Party has congratulated Nigerian workers on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare and rights of workers across the country.
This is contained in a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, in Abuja.
The statement describes the day as one of deep emotional and historical importance to the party, noting that its identity since its registration in 2003 has been rooted in the struggles and aspirations of Nigerian workers.
It calls on government authorities to intensify efforts toward improving workers’ welfare, acknowledging recent steps such as the increase in the minimum wage, but stressing that more needs to be done in view of rising inflation.
According to the statement, the Party also commended the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), and their affiliate unions for their continued commitment to protecting workers’ rights and supporting national development.
Reaffirming its position, the party assures Nigerian workers of its continued support in the pursuit of good governance, fair wages, and policies aligned with global best practices as set by the International Labour Organization.
The statement urges workers to remain steadfast and continue to support the party, expressing confidence in what it described as the eventual victory of the people.
