The National Chairman of the Labour Party, , has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to increasing women participation in Nigeria’s political process.
Senator Usman made this known in Abuja while receiving members of the Nigeria League of Women Voters, Kaduna State Chapter, during a courtesy visit.
She commended the group for advocating greater representation for women in politics and assured them of the Labour Party’s continued support for women empowerment and inclusion in governance.
The Labour Party chairman said the party has demonstrated its commitment to gender inclusion by appointing women into key leadership positions, including National Chairman, National Organising Secretary, and National Legal Adviser.
Senator Usman, however, encouraged women to be more courageous in pursuing political positions instead of waiting for special concessions or quotas.
She expressed concern over the decline in women representation in governance, noting that the current Senate has only three female senators compared to eight during the 7th National Assembly.
The Labour Party chairman also urged women voters to support female candidates during elections, stressing that women must work together to change the political narrative in the country.
Speaking emotionally, Senator Usman praised for supporting her emergence as chairman of the party, revealing that she shed tears when the governor insisted she should remain in office during the party’s convention in Umuahia.
She described Governor Otti as a strong advocate of women inclusion and called on women groups to support the Labour Party in future elections.
