The Labour Party has scheduled a meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) for June 11, 2026, to ratify the results of its recently concluded primary elections and approve the formal submission of candidates for the 2027 general elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This is contained in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Ken Eluma Asogwa, in Abuja.
The statement notes that the NEC meeting will bring together statutory members, candidates who emerged from the primaries, party organs and other stakeholders.
It says the meeting, convened in line with Article 28 of the Labour Party Constitution 2026, forms part of its internal governance and electoral compliance processes aimed at ensuring that candidates emerging from the primaries are duly endorsed before their names are forwarded to INEC.
According to the statement, the committee is expected to review and formally approve the outcomes of the nationwide primaries in line with the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution.
It also announced that the issuance of Certificates of Return to candidates for the offices of President, Governor, Senate and House of Representatives will commence immediately after the ratification process.
It describs the meeting as a significant step in its preparations for the 2027 general elections, being the first NEC session since its recent National Convention and the emergence of candidates for elective offices.
The statement adds that the gathering will further strengthen its organisational readiness and mobilisation efforts ahead of the polls.
