State Governments have been urged to review archaic land legislations that could hinder the success of the Presidential Livestock Reforms.
The Co-Chairman, Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee, Professor Attahiru Jega made the call when he paid a courtesy visit to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State.
The Co-Chairman of the Committee, Professor Attahiru Jega observed that, archaic land statutes, non gazetting and utilization of grazing reserves and poor investment in vaccine production and acquisition are some of the challenges that require review by state Governments.
He said the visit to Niger State was in furtherance to consultations and exchange of ideas in line with the mandate of the Committee.
Professor Jega appreciated the State Government for establishing the Ministries of livestock and Fisheries and that of Pastoralists and Nomadic Affairs a development he said was timely.
“We remain deeply grateful to Mr President who is the Chairman of the Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee for his unwavering support.
”His commitment to inclusivity and cooperation to State Governments regardless of political differences has been pivotal”
On his part, the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago said as part of moves to provide resilient livestock that would provide both milk and beef, the State Government is already carrying out genetic modification on cattles.
He reassured the Presidential Livestock Committee of his support and partnership.
The Governor also disclosed that in support of President Tinubu’s agricultural policies, the State has invested heavily in mechanised wet and dry season farming.
