The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has achieved a key operational milestone with the commissioning of the reactivated Super Puma helicopter (NAF 565) in Lagos, enhancing the Service’s readiness and capability across multiple theatres.
Speaking at the event, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, emphasized the importance of sustaining decisive airpower for national defence and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting air force development under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Air Marshal Aneke described the Super Puma as a versatile platform critical for troop transport, casualty evacuation, search and rescue, logistics support, counterinsurgency, anti-banditry operations, and maritime security.
He highlighted its proven role in operations such as Hadin Kai and stressed that its reactivation would strengthen Nigeria’s operational readiness.

The CAS also commended personnel and technical teams for their professionalism, urging strict adherence to safety and maintenance standards to uphold mission readiness and operational discipline.
He acknowledged the support of the National Assembly in ensuring fiscal backing for critical airpower projects.
During a durbar with officers and airmen at Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, the CAS outlined gains in operational tempo achieved in his first 100 days, linking improved aircraft serviceability to enhanced coordination between logistics and operations.
He also reaffirmed ongoing modernization plans, including the induction of advanced combat platforms for precision strike and regional deterrence.
Emphasizing personnel welfare as integral to operational effectiveness, Air Marshal Aneke pledged to accelerate completion of accommodation projects, improve allowances, medical support, and working conditions under the principle of “Welfare for Enhanced Warfare.”

The engagement concluded with a call for discipline, innovation, and mission-focused performance as the NAF continues to strengthen its operational capabilities nationwide.
