The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed as fake the lists of candidates currently circulating on social media, purportedly representing the party’s authentic candidates for elections in Imo, Abia, Anambra and other affected states.
This is contained in a statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, in Abuja.
The statement urges members, supporters and the general public to disregard the lists, stressing that they did not originate from the party’s national headquarters.
It clarifies that the authentic list of candidates who will fly its flag had already been duly submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through the official channels in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
According to the statement, the fake lists are the handiwork of “mischief makers” and individuals bent on causing confusion, division and unnecessary distractions within the party.
According to the statement, the NDC says that investigations have commenced to trace the sources of the fabricated documents and possible internal leakages, describing the act as a desperate attempt to undermine the party’s internal processes and destabilize its growing structure.
The statement reassures members across the affected states and beyond of its commitment to transparency, unity and democratic values, urging stakeholders to remain calm and focused.
It adds that the NDC remains resolute in its mission to build a formidable political platform capable of offering Nigerians an alternative path to national liberation and sustainable development.
The statement calls on its members to rely only on official communications from its national leadership and avoid being misled by unauthorized publications on social media.
