The Nigeria Democratic Congress has fixed May 9, 2026 for its National Convention as part of preparations for the 2027 presidential and general elections.
The party made this known in a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission, notifying the commission of its revised timetable for congresses, primaries and convention.
The correspondence was jointly signed by the party’s National Chairman, Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, and National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, in Abuja.
According to the party, officials will be elected at the National Convention, while the exercise is expected to strengthen its structures ahead of the next general elections.
The timetable shows that electronic membership registration and mobilisation are already ongoing nationwide.
The party said the e-registration exercise will end on April 29, 2026, while its updated membership register will be submitted to INEC the same day.
According to the party, ward congresses are scheduled for May 1, followed by local government congresses on May 2, state congresses will hold on May 4, while zonal congresses are expected on May 6.
The party also released dates for its primaries ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to the schedule, primaries for State Houses of Assembly will hold on May 22, National Assembly primaries on May 24, while governorship primaries are fixed for May 25, 2026.
A final national convention to ratify candidates that emerge from the primaries has been scheduled for May 29, 2026.
The party urged INEC to deploy officials to monitor all stages of the exercise, reaffirming its commitment to internal democracy and compliance with the Electoral Act.
