The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has produced a formidable lineup of senatorial candidates for the 2027 general elections in Anambra State, with former lawmakers and business leaders emerging victorious in the party’s primary elections held across the state on Friday.
Former Senator Victor Umeh secured the party’s ticket for Anambra Central Senatorial District, while Senator Tony Nwoye emerged as the candidate for Anambra North and chief Ebuka Onunkwo clinched the ticket for Anambra South Senatorial District.
The primary elections, conducted under the Option A4 voting system, witnessed a peaceful and orderly process, with party members turning out in large numbers across the state to participate in the exercise.
Beyond the senatorial contests, the party also produced candidates for the House of Representatives and Anambra State House of Assembly seats, with 11 candidates emerging for the Federal House of Representatives and 30 for the State Assembly.
Speaking after the exercise, the Anambra State Chairman of the NDC, Ikem Uzoezie, commended party members for their conduct and described the primaries as one of the most transparent, peaceful and credible ever conducted in the state.
According to him, the successful conclusion of the exercise reflects the party’s commitment to internal democracy and electoral integrity.
“We congratulate all aspirants who emerged as candidates and those who did not. The level of sportsmanship displayed throughout the process was commendable and a clear indication of the maturity of our party,” Uzoezie said.
Speaking on behalf of the successful candidates, Chief Ebuka Onunkwo expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the primaries and praised party members for their discipline and commitment to democratic values.
He noted that the NDC has assembled a team of credible candidates capable of providing effective representation and driving development across Anambra State.
“We are happy with the peaceful process and salute our party members for conducting themselves responsibly throughout the exercise.
“With the quality of candidates produced by our party for the 2027 elections, Anambra is poised to witness people-oriented representation that will move the state to greater heights,” Onunkwo stated.
