Members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus in the House of Representatives have reaffirmed their loyalty to the party and pledged to intensify efforts in holding the Federal Government accountable ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The lawmakers, led by the House Minority Leader, Victor Afam Ogene, made the declaration during a courtesy visit to the National Leader of the NDC, Henry Seriake Dickson, at his residence in Abuja.
Speaking on behalf of the caucus, Ogene said the visit was to reassure the party leadership of the lawmakers’ commitment to the ideals of the NDC and effective opposition politics in the interest of Nigerians.
“This evening, we are here as members of the House of Representatives Caucus of the NDC to reassure you of our commitment to serve the people of Nigeria in keeping with the motto of our party, service to the people,” he said.
The Minority Leader stressed that the caucus would continue to play a strong opposition role by ensuring accountability and democratic governance.
“In rendering this service, we will hold the government of the day accountable to the people so that they would render to the Nigerian people the basic necessities associated with democracy and civil rule,” Ogene stated.
He described the NDC as the leading opposition force in the House of Representatives, noting that the growing strength of the party would amplify its voice both nationally and internationally.
“We are now the major opposition party in Parliament, especially the House of Representatives from where we operate and with this number our voice will be strengthened and heard across Nigeria and beyond in holding government to its responsibilities,” he added.
Ogene further assured the leadership of the caucus’ unwavering loyalty to the party and the Nigerian people.
Responding on behalf of Senator Dickson and other party leaders, Rabiu Kwankwaso commended the lawmakers for their loyalty and commitment, describing loyalty as a rare virtue in Nigeria’s political landscape.
“We appreciate your steadfastness and want to assure you on behalf of the leadership that we will continue to work together so the party can succeed,” Kwankwaso said.
The former Kano State governor also called on Nigerians to register with the NDC and obtain their voter cards ahead of the 2027 elections.
He urged party members to intensify grassroots mobilisation across their constituencies, especially among youths and supporters seeking political change in the country.
Kwankwaso expressed confidence that collective mobilisation and participation in the democratic process would pave the way for what he described as a “positive change” in 2027.
Among members of the delegation were George Ozodinobi, Okey-Joe Onuakalusi, Lillian Orogbu, Atta Thaddeous Achief, and Chijioke Okereke,
