Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, is leading the country’s delegation to the 48th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Executive Council in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, scheduled for February 11–12, 2026.
The session precedes the 39th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government.
Ambassador Tuggar emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to advancing continental priorities, including peace and security, democratic governance, climate action, health security, development financing, and the implementation of Africa’s long-term development blueprint, Agenda 2063.
On arrival, Tuggar was received by Ethiopia’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs alongside Nigeria’s Charge d’Affaires, Ambassador Nasir Aminu, and officials of the Nigerian Mission.
The Minister is also set to hold bilateral meetings with African and non-African counterparts to strengthen diplomatic ties and pursue shared strategic interests.
As part of Nigeria’s contributions to AU deliberations, the country will host a high-level side event on regional partnerships for democracy, reaffirming its role as a leader in promoting constitutional governance and public trust in Africa.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured that updates on the outcomes of the meetings would be communicated as the session progresses.
This participation underscores Nigeria’s proactive engagement in shaping continental policies and fostering regional cooperation for sustainable development and security.
