The National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Dr. Agbo Major, has called on the Federal Government to move beyond rhetoric and take decisive action to end the worsening wave of killings and insecurity across the country.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Dr. Major said protecting the lives and property of Nigerians remains the primary responsibility of government, stressing that intelligence gathering and effective collaboration among security agencies are critical to restoring peace.

He said while prayers are important, they cannot replace proactive security measures, urging the government to identify and prosecute individuals aiding criminal activities.

“The killings must stop. Nigerians should be able to travel freely from one part of the country to another without fear. Security agencies must work together, share intelligence and ensure the safety of lives and property,” he said.

Dr. Major expressed concern that many Nigerians can no longer travel by road because of insecurity, while the high cost of air travel has made movement difficult for ordinary citizens.

On party affairs, the NNPP chairman announced that the party has begun uploading the details of its candidates for the forthcoming elections following the resolution of its leadership dispute.

He said the party had requested the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to grant a short extension to enable it complete the upload of candidates, explaining that delays in implementing court judgments affected the party’s timetable.

According to him, the party has already completed the upload of its polling agents, while the submission and verification of nomination forms for candidates contesting various elective positions are ongoing.

Dr. Major said the NNPP had also restored its authentic 2022 Constitution and Manifesto, adding that the party would continue to operate strictly in line with those documents.

He stated that the National Executive Committee (NEC) would meet in the coming weeks to ratify decisions already taken by the party’s interim leadership and strengthen preparations for the elections.

The NNPP chairman thanked the party’s founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Boniface Okechukwu, members, supporters and Nigerians in the diaspora for standing by the party throughout its prolonged legal battle.

He also commended the judiciary for upholding the rule of law despite what he described as attempts to intimidate judges handling the party’s cases.

Dr. Major, however, expressed disappointment over the delay in implementing court judgments affecting the party, saying the development placed the NNPP at a disadvantage in its election preparations.

He appealed to INEC to implement court decisions promptly in the interest of democracy, fairness and the rule of law.

The NNPP national chairman also announced the appointment of Ambassador Shaibu Ahmed as the Deputy Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, saying the decision was reached at an emergency meeting held in Lagos to strengthen the party’s leadership ahead of the elections.

Dr. Major assured members that the NNPP remains united, focused and determined to provide Nigerians with a credible political alternative, while calling on the media to continue giving the party fair and balanced coverage.
