The Obi- Kwankwaso Movement, OK, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to investigate the reported cash empowerment exercise organised by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, over allegations of possible vote-buying.
A statement signed by its National Director-General, John Ozyl Ughulu in Abuja, expresses concern over the exercise, describing it as a development that raises questions about the conduct of elected public officials and the integrity of the democratic process.
The statement urges the EFCC to establish the circumstances surrounding the distribution of cash and prosecute anyone found culpable in accordance with the law.
It also expresses concern that the reported exercise could undermine public confidence in democratic institutions, stressing that elected representatives should be accountable to the people.
The statement calls on public office holders to demonstrate responsibility and respect for democratic values rather than engage in practices capable of influencing citizens through financial inducements.
It says it will mobilise its political structures to oppose Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s return to the Senate, insisting that political leadership should be based on accountability, integrity and service to the people.
It maintains that the EFCC investigation would help establish the facts surrounding the reported exercise and determine whether any electoral offence had been committed.
