Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has expressed readiness for a potential Round of 16 clash against Liverpool FC after guiding Galatasaray into the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League.
Osimhen spoke after scoring the decisive goal that secured Galatasaray’s qualification on Wednesday night, despite a spirited comeback by Juventus FC.
The result marked the Turkish champions’ first appearance in the last 16 of the competition in 12 years.
In a post-match interview, the Nigerian forward acknowledged that facing Liverpool would be a major test but said top teams must be prepared to compete against Europe’s elite.
He noted that although Galatasaray defeated Liverpool 1–0 during the league phase in Istanbul, a possible meeting at Anfield would present a different challenge.
Osimhen described such a fixture as an opportunity to make a strong statement in the competition, stressing that teams aspiring to win the Champions League must be ready to face the “big dogs.”
Despite his match-winning contribution, the striker voiced dissatisfaction with his team’s overall performance, criticising their inability to maintain control after surrendering a three-goal first-leg advantage to a ten-man Juventus side in the return leg.
He admitted that while qualification brought relief, significant improvement would be required ahead of the next round.
Osimhen commended Juventus for their display and reiterated that Galatasaray must raise their standards to compete effectively at the highest level.
Galatasaray will learn their Round of 16 opponents either Liverpool or Tottenham Hotspur FC when the draw is conducted on Friday, February 27.
