The Social Democratic Party, SDP, says the party ready for the 2027 general elections and that its structures are intact and preparations are already underway nationwide.
National Chairman, Professor Sadiq Gombe, stated this during a media briefing at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
He said members of the National Working Committee (NWC) were present at the briefing, demonstrating unity and commitment within the party leadership.
According to him, the SDP has commenced its timetable of activities, including ward, local government, state and zonal congresses, ahead of a national convention expected later in the year.

Professor Gombe explained that many members had already shown interest in contesting for various elective offices, including state assemblies, the National Assembly, governorship seats and the presidency.
He stressed that the party would not be distracted by internal disagreements, adding that all political parties have constitutional powers to manage their internal affairs.
The chairman said the SDP remains committed to its ideological foundation and would continue to operate within the Constitution, Electoral Act and party guidelines.
On concerns over names appearing on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, portal, he said such matters do not determine its internal leadership decisions.
National Secretary, Dr. Olu Agunloye said the party had put its house in order and remained peaceful, disciplined and focused on future elections.
He maintained that any administrative discrepancies should not create unnecessary concern, as the party leadership remains firmly in charge.
Also speaking, National Publicity Secretary, , said all issues within the party had been resolved through established procedures.
He added that no incident would destabilise the SDP, insisting that the party remained united and forward-looking.

Former Minister of Information, praised the party leadership for its preparations and organisational discipline.
Maku cited the party’s performance in during the last elections, where the SDP won two Senate seats, two House of Representatives seats and four State Assembly seats.
He said strong political parties are essential to democracy and expressed confidence that the SDP would continue to grow as a viable platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
