The Senate has resolved to call for the removal of the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Husaini Magaji, over his repeated failure to honour invitations to appear before the upper legislative chamber.
The decision followed a motion moved by Orji Uzor Kalu during a session of the Senate Committee on Finance, where members of the President’s economic team were present.
Lawmakers expressed dissatisfaction over the absence of the CAC chief, who had been invited to provide clarification on the commission’s operations.
Senator Kalu criticised what he described as a pattern of non-compliance, stating that the Registrar-General had consistently offered excuses for failing to attend committee hearings.
He argued that such conduct undermines legislative oversight and accountability.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Sani Musa, also raised concerns about unresolved revenue reconciliation issues involving the commission, noting that the agency’s leadership had not appeared to address outstanding queries.
Supporting the motion, Adams Oshiomhole proposed that the Senate consider withholding approval of the CAC’s 2026 budget as a further measure to compel compliance with legislative summons.
The Senate subsequently adopted the resolution urging the President to remove the CAC Registrar-General, underscoring the legislature’s constitutional role in oversight and the need for heads of government agencies to maintain transparency and accountability in public administration.
